Scolopendra heros castaneiceps
This is Scolopendra heros castaneiceps. It is easily identified by its unique coloration, since no other centipede in the US has these colors (head and first two pedal segments are red, first 20 pairs of legs yellow, body black). The full length image would be great for future reference and confirmation of the ID.

There are two other subspecies that occur in the US that have much different coloration than S. h. castaneiceps.

George thanks for the ID. I just found out about this site after catching this centipede and a Katydid. I should have measured it (sex?) but guessing now it was 6+ inches. For reference, the circle in the plastic container is 4 in diameter. Amazing how quickly it can burrow and hide.
