Springtail - Proisotoma minuta

Springtail - Proisotoma minuta
Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada
February 12, 2016
Size: ~ .5 mm
I doubt that I can get any clearer than this on a juvenile specimen. The two most anterior ocelli do appear to touch.

Proisotoma minuta juvenile
A great picture! And a perfect match. This must be a scoop. It is known from Proisotoma minima that the ocelli are each located on its own black patch. But not (yet) in P. minuta. Apparently juvenile P. minuta also have 'isolated' ocelli. Great observation! In adults there is an elongate dark eyepatch that appears to be bipartite due to a constriction after the anterior group of 5 ocelli.

Great Revelations and Sym P. le Apocalypses
I wasn't expecting great revelations on a ubiuqitous species so it will be interesting to see if it proves out to be true. It's interesting to explore my collection as I think I've come across a few more species (one mite, one wireworm, three or four springtail) that have survived the Sym P. le Apocalypse. I will post more as I sift through all the junk.
