TinyBlackAnt1mm - Brachymyrmex patagonicus

TinyBlackAnt1mm - Brachymyrmex patagonicus
Blountstown in Panhandle, Calhoun County, Florida, USA
February 19, 2016
Size: 1 mm as measured
As measured 1mm ant. With net swept through a Walters Viburnum. Ant died after 7 minutes of freezer "calming". I'm surprised. How do they survive freezing nights? In any case, ID anybody?

A freezer is quite a bit colder than the soil in southern Florida ever gets. This subtropical species is an import form southern South America, where it also survives occasional freezing nights.
