Blue spider - Castianeira longipalpa

Blue spider - Castianeira longipalpa
Henrico County, Virginia, USA
June 17, 2007
Size: approx. 1/2 inch
This little guy was found on the kitchen floor, captured with a bug catcher and released outside after I got his mug shot. I've looked at a lot of spider photos but still don't have an I.D. The spider looked blue with red bands on the legs. Very handsome and extremely fast.

Thank you
Thank you so much for your response! This sure does look like Castianeira longipalpa though mine appeared a bluish color both with the naked eye and in the photo.

Freshly molted?
I think a fair number of spiders, fresh out of a molt, have some iridescence to them, especially spiders with scales and dense hairs.
