Size: ~ 4 mm
Collected by N. Anderson. Specimen held at WWUC. Unsure a staph perphaps? Confirmation/correction, and further placement would be appreciated.

can the specimen be relaxed...
with the pronotum and head prognathous and in the same plane as the elytra? Tough to get the complete picture. Current differentials are a mycetophagid or maybe Xerasia grisescens (not sure if the latter gets that far north).

Just wanted to let you know I didn't ignore your suggestion about relaxing the specimen. With the age and condition of the specimen I just did not want to risk any further damage to it, especially since it is not from my personal collection. As you might have noticed I'm doing some help with the Western Washington University's Collection (WWUC). And I do so appreciate your all's assistance and I know they do too.

X. grisescens looking likely.
According to American Beetles, Volume II X. grisescens can be found in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington. The example of the Maxillary palp is almost an exact match for X. grisescens as well.
