Gray bird grasshopper.
This is an extraordinarily pale specimen of the gray bird grasshopper, Schistocerca nitens. They can be very abundant in parts of Arizona and the southwest in general, but not in such huge "plagues" that they do any great damage.

I could not get over the size. It never ate anything in my yard, but finally left after "hanging out" since yesterday.
