Shield bug.
This is an adult shield bug in the family Scutellaridae (sometimes lumped with stink bugs in the Pentatomidae). I have no idea what species this is. Florida gets a ridiculous number of exotic species coming into the state also, so it wouldn't surprise me if it is from some other country. You might contact the Florida Department of Agriculture and see if someone there recognizes it....

Shield Bug, family Scutellaridae
Eric: I sent my inquiry to the Florida Dept of Agriculture as suggested and here are the responses:
Dear Ms. Kallal:
Thank you for the very nice photo of the stink bug. I forwarded your link to Dr. Joe Eger, the specialist for stink bugs. Here is his reply. It is in the family Scutelleridae, the shield bugs. These are plant feeders. The Florida species are not serious pests.

Subject: RE: Bug ID ?
Susan, there is a small chance that this thing could be Homaemus proteus, but I'm almost certain that it is Sphyrocoris obliquus (Germar).

Joe:
Wayne Dixon has asked me to identify the insect in this photo taken by a Florida homeowner. Do you recognize it?
Thanks, Susan
