Hoverfly? - Cerotainia macrocera

Hoverfly? - Cerotainia macrocera
North Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
May 7, 2007
Size: ~1 inch
I believe this is some kind of hoverfly, but have yet to find anything close to a specific positive ID. This was the only time I'd ever actually seen one of these.

asilidae
robber fly, not hover fly. Not sure of the genus, i think it's somewhere around Cerot*ainia

Interesting,
there's something about the image that make it look a lot smaller than an inch. We were expecting you to say 1 cm!

It's probably less than 1 inch
It's probably less than 1 inch. It's been a while since I saw it, so I may remember it bigger than it was. It's definitely bigger than 1cm. Maybe a bit over 2cm.
