From Kathy Biggs
Yes, the images are of female Mexican Amberwings. The females of this species, indeed the genus, are HIGHLY variable in wing coloration.

For further comparisons, here's a link to the part of my California Dragonflies website that goes directly, more or less, to that species: SonicNet

Eastern Amberwings don't show the orange body, but their wing coloration is variable too.

Let me know anytime you need help with western dragonfly IDs. And, I'd like to encourage anyone in the Southwest who's into dragonfly photography to join our SouthWestOdes Yahoo discussion group: here (There's even a pix of an Mexican Amberwing on the opening page!). We're a small group dedicated to helping each other learn about dragonflies, their distribution and flight data.

Cheers!!
Kathy
