Trixagus sericeus - Trixagus mendax

Trixagus sericeus - Trixagus mendax
Lantzville, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
April 5, 2016
Size: 2.2mm
Found on Mahonia aquifolium flowers in backyard.

I keyed this out using Yensens 1975 "A Revision of the North American Species of Trixagus Kugelann (Coleoptera: Throscidae)".

The prosternal carinae is distinctly incomplete and the ratio of pronotum in relation to elytra is 0.277 which clearly makes it T. sericeus.

This is a new species for the guide.

I tried to get pictures of all the right bits but none of them are all that great

Moved, let's call it T. mendax
Thanks!

I am going to Frass a few redundant or unnecessary pics. Move back if you feel warranted. Thanks.

Moved from Trixagus.

can you revisit this one?
The carinae look kinda complete, but faint anteriorly. I am thinking, maybe mendax?
is your camera technology the same? can you reshoot? I just moved true sericeus from Washington; you can compare your specimen to that one!

Just got it under the scope
and I have to agree the carinae seems to get faint anteriorly but is still there.

Will do
I might not be quick but I'll get some better pictures and run it through the keys

Moved, nice Trixagus
will confirm the species later...

Moved from Beetles.

I can't appreciate the prosternal carinae
I straight-on ventral shot of the prothorax would help.

Added 3 images
I have added 3 images in the hope that one of them gives you a view of what you are after.
