Robberfly? - Promachus rufipes

Robberfly? - Promachus rufipes
Tampa, Florida, USA
Size: 2-3 Inch
I guess this is a robberfly, even its the biggest one I ever saw. Are this flies something to worry about? After beeing bit by a deer fly 3 weeks ago, I try to avoid anymore incidents with "mother Nature" for a while

Moved
Moved from Giant Robber Flies.

Promachus
Female. They are large and fearless. I have had them land on me. Only if you were foolish enough to try and handle them with your hands and happened to get on the wrong end of the stabbing proboscis could it harm you with a kind of bite and injection.

You've got it - Robberfly
Hopefully, someone here can tell you more. I don't think you have to worry one bit about these guys. They're shy and, I believe, unequipped to munch on us. I haven't been around deer flies in decades, but sympathize with you as I do remember painful bites.
