Snowberry Clearwing - Hemaris thetis

Snowberry Clearwing - Hemaris thetis
Novato, California, USA
April 23, 2016
Size: 1"
This is my Aunt's photo but I need more information on it pertaining to how unusual it is to see in California as most of the posts are from the mid-west . I am pretty sure it is a Snowberry Clearwing on a wild Hyacinth . It was found at the Indian College campus . Thanks for further information, sincerely Beth

Moved from ID Request.

Yes - H. diffinis west of the Continental Divide are now H. thetis.

I suggest
Hemaris thetis - Hodges#7855.1 which is reported in California as early as April. They are similar in appearance to the eastern Hemaris diffinis
