Pinnacles blister beetles - Lytta

Pinnacles blister beetles - Lytta
Pinnacles National Park, San Benito County, California, USA
May 1, 2016
Dozens of these beetles were seen feeding and mating on California Poppies at Pinnacles National Park. My initial thoughts were Lytta stygica based on the timing, habitat, and overall appearance, but I'm not familiar enough with blister beetles to know fow sure (Linsleya sp.?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We cropped a couple of these older images for you
so you can see what is needed. While you, as the contributor, can click on your new cropped additions and see the full size 1800 or 1900 pixel images you submitted, the rest of us are restricted to the 560 pixel reductions, where even in the new submission, the bug makes up only about 10% of the image. That's why we ask for a crop that is a rectangle that is essentially 'just the bug'. That way the insect is clearly visible in the thumbnail and all relevant features can be seen at the 560 pixel level. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I will keep this in mind for next time and try and include both a "bug in habitat" shot and a highly cropped close up.

can you crop for better viewing...
and eventual retention in the Guide.

I have added several additional, more heavily cropped photos. I hope these show the important features needed to ID these beetles.
Thank you!
