Sam, this is the first one for the state of Oklahoma listed in the guide. Well done.

Cool, thanks!

Is it the first Cicada or the first of this species of Cicada ?

Sorry
Sam,

Your photo, is the first species of Neocicada listed for Oklahoma on Bugguide.

Gerry

sorry
... but according to the Metcalf catalogue of Homoptera, this species was recorded from OK in 1930. Warning: data banks do not pick up all the data!

According to the Data Tab mapping...
there are no Oklahoma images in the guide at all (yet) for the Cicadidae- so this will be the first.

Just curious but how does the data tab work ? Does it update automatically somehow or does somebody have to manually update it ?

It's automatic
The software looks at the state/province field in all the records covered by that spot in the guide, then draws the map based on what it finds. When your image is moved to the guide, it shouldn't take more than a minute or two for it to show Oklahoma colored in (you might have to click refresh/reload).

That's why we nag people sometimes about posting images of captive specimens- if they have the state selected, the data tab will show it as being found there
