Handsome Little Fly - Minettia lupulina

Handsome Little Fly - Minettia lupulina
North East, Ohio, USA
June 11, 2004
Size: very small
This handsome, colorful little fly was photographed in a wet meadow. I'd say it wasn't much bigger than a Long-legged fly.

Moved
Moved from Minettia.

Lauxaniid fly
This is a lauxaniid fly of the genus Minettia. In Europe we have at least two species that are very similar and that resemble the one on this picture. One of these is listed for the Nearctic region on Nearctica.com: M. lupulina. So I think I will stick to that name.

Species
I made a species page and moved this down. Was that correct? It had been so long since your comment, I wondered if maybe that is going too far?

Thanks Paul!
I was able to look up M. lupulina and read a little bit of their natural history. Thanks!
