red-backed stink bug - Banasa dimiata

red-backed stink bug - Banasa dimiata
Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
June 16, 2004
Size: about 10 mm
Under eaves beside porch light. This looks similar to the Guide photo of Banasa, and also these shots (1, 2, 3) identified as Banasa, but it also resembles this image, labeled Thyanta accerra. Who knows?

I know
This is Banasa dimiata (everyone calls it dimidiata, but the original spelling was actually dimiata). The reason you are confused is that the photo labeled Thyanta accerra is wrong - it is also a picture of Banasa dimiata.
