Maverick tarantula hawk with orange antennae - Pepsis mildei - Male
Riley Wilderness Park, Coto De Caza, Orange County, California, USA

With three other species noshing on buckwhe*at, this rugged individual prefered to dine with bu*gs and beet*les on thin-leaved milkweed. This one is Pepsis who? (I've been calling it "Pepsis lite", as it's smaller than the ones with paler red wings.)

Pepsis
lite, aka mildei. This looks like a male. Maybe your other specimen images are of a female.

Yes.
Definitely P. mildei, and a male. There is nothing "delicate" about a female tarantuala hawk:-) I have had a hard time finding this species here in Arizona....

Pepsis
Just looked at the linked photo discussion. Florida should have elegans and marginata (crosses over from Hispanola). P marginata does not have orange antenna. And as far as I know the only prey records ever known for any of the true Pepsis species are Tarantulas. A large wolf capture would be scientifically important info.
