Orange and black bug, black wings - Eichlinia cucurbitae

Orange and black bug, black wings - Eichlinia cucurbitae
Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
June 14, 2016
Size: 2 cm
Spotted resting on a ground cherry (Physalis sp.). Looks like it wants you to think it's a wasp, but it seems not very waspy to me. Anyone have an ID?

Moved, Melittia cucurbitae
Moved from ID Request. Please remember to check "adult" or "immature," especially for moths and butterflies. I've done it here for you.
