Vaejovis Carolinianus? - Vaejovis carolinianus

Vaejovis Carolinianus? - Vaejovis carolinianus
Meridian, Lauderdale County, Mississippi, USA
April 15, 2007
Size: 1 1/2 inches each
I have a pair of what I was told are Vaejovis Carolinianus that found their way home with us in a tent after a camping trip here in Meridian, Mississippi. We have them in a little 1 gallon tank with all the bells and whistles. We've had them for about 3 months and they seem to be doing just fine but can't really find any info on them anywhere. Is there a way to sex them? They're so small (about an inch and a half long each with tails out straight) and aggression doesn't seem to be an issue with them living together.

One is a little pudgy compared to the other one but they're not fat. I tried my best to take a photo but the little boogers just didn't want to sit still, they didn't like being in the small container to make photographing easier, and were running laps like it was an olympic event.

They seem to enjoy their little home, it always has fresh leaves to hide under and their container sits on top of the cable box whichgives a good amount of heat combined with the fresh wet leaves, makes a wonderful humidifier for them. We've been feeding them pinhead crickets and they eat like crazy. Can you give me a heads up on anything special I should do to make them happier? I haven't gotten any complaints as of yet but am always looking for ways of keeping my critters happy.

I can't help too much in the way of caring for them or additional information of this species but if you haven't already, try Arachnoboards: http://www.arachnoboards.com/ab/. This is a pretty good site for scorpion questions and such. NOT that you might not get good information here, just an additional source.

I'm A GRANDMA! (sort of, lol)
Well...the 2 scorps pictured above had a bucket of babies last night. The momma has them plastered all over her back and they're all doing rather well. We didn't have time for a baby shower, but all baby gifts will be welcomed. Grubs, maggots, and small flightless insects of the chewy variety are preferred. I'll post a pic if I can get them to stand still long enough.

Congrats! I had bought a scorpion at a flea market when I was in my teens. After a few weeks of owning it, it had babies too. Unfortunately, she ate them, even though I kept her well fed. Again, congrats!
