Bright Orange - Dasymutilla lepeletierii - Female
Three Lakes Wilderness Area, Osceola County, Florida, USA
July 3, 2007
Size: 10 mm
This female was found in the same general area as I searched last year at the same time except last year I found D. scaevola only and none this year. Interesting to say the least. Perhaps my ID is incorrect?

I am no expert
but this certainly looks like the other photos posted. Furthermore, this set of photos don't look like the nigripes already posted. Are the posted photos of nigripes and lepeletierii correctly identified? There seems to be much variation among species that lends to confusion. I would love a key or explanations to differences especially for Florida species. Are you confident enough in your ID for me to move these to nigripes?
