Schizocerella pilicornis seems likely since this was found in a leaf of Purslane.

Strange... it almost looks like a beetle larva, but I think it's just scrunched up because it isn't doing too well (or is preparing to molt?). The one inside the mine (which I assume is the same larva) looks like a normal sawfly larva.

The mine looks right...
but those speckles aren't present on any of the larvae I have photographed, or any of the ones in the guide. Maybe this is because all the other photos show prepupae and this is a younger larva? I'm also confused by the appearance of the front end of the larva in your second photo. Did you get a side view, by any chance?
