Tiny Fleas

Tiny Fleas
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
June 20, 2016
Size: ≤ 2mm
My dog is plagued with these tiny flea. They are so small, they look like pepper. Expensive flea treatment has not done anything to curb these monsters. After bathing her with pyrethrin dip, I went back to rinse tub, I find them hopping around the tub. What are they, and what can I do? BTW I notice there have been similar looking fleas that have not been ID'd in four years.

Squirrel flea?
Hello,

So, just today, I found very similar looking fleas running and jumping along the inside rim of a prairie dog hole. I think your flea looks quite a bit like a squirrel flea (Orchopeas howardi) http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/95701994

I'm planning to send mine in to our state Extension Service office. Hope you can get a more positive ID on yours. Good luck.
