Beaded Lacewing - Lomamyia

Beaded Lacewing - Lomamyia
Parsons Run, Duluth, Fulton County, Georgia, USA
August 17, 2004
OK, who else has seen these? I kept expecting to see somebody post one because it was not unusual to find them at my mercury vapor lamp. I've posted three different individuals but I saw many more.

The references I mentioned on the guide page all indicate these are relatively rare, so maybe I'm in some sort of hotspot? Their larvae prey on termites, so maybe they're well fed by all the termites around here :).

In California termites are everywhere!
It's a wonder this species is not in the west, they could eat like kings!

Ah, perhaps there range includes California after all, considering this Orange County specimen:

#12463 Identification – Lomamyia sp.
Identification confirmed.

So neat!
I've never seen these before, they are really neat lookin little lacewings! I'll hafta keep my eyes peeled...although the termite food source might be cause for worry...
