Along with their hosts, these beetles are abundant in fall in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh; I could reliably find multiple gravid females, year after year, perched on trees and university buildings during the day as high as several feet above breast height. A female beetle sitting at the base of a tree in a young ornamental grove attracted the attention of these two males around 1:45 pm. I found her by following one of the males as he flew down, landed on the tree trunk, and wandered into here; by that time another smaller male had gotten there first. The weather was cool and humid, just before a light rain.
