Idiocerus - Idiocerus stigmaticalis

Idiocerus - Idiocerus stigmaticalis
Montréal, Quebec, Canada
July 5, 2007
Another Idiocerus formosus? The wings are paler than the other one I found July 2nd. Found on willow.

Idiocerus stigmaticalis
I have examined this specimen and find it is not I. formosus, but rather an introduced European species on willows. Note that the dark crossveins near the tip of the wing nearly line up in a row, whereas in native Idiocerus they are distinctly staggered.

This specimen is a male; the front margin of the wing is marked with black, and on the underside it has prominent bumps (an unique feature). Often these bumps are pink.

Idiocerus stigmaticalis
There is another picture of the same wing pattern already in BugGuide, but united with a paler head and thorax.
