A Sandalus Trio - Sandalus niger - male

A Sandalus Trio - Sandalus niger - Male
Oakland, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA
October 7, 2014
The first male to mate successfully released the female first, and quickly took flight. As expected for a capital-breeding insect, the males fly readily to search widely for mates, while females are sedentary, flightless, and attract mates from long distances.
