Striped Seedcorn Beetle - Stenolophus lecontei

Striped Seedcorn Beetle - Stenolophus lecontei
Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
July 6, 2004
Size: 6-7 mm
A common night visitor to our porch last year from April through September, I think this is one of the first two species shown here.

Stenolophus comma
is more likely based on pattern of dark bands on elytra, namely, bands are truncated abruptly anteriorly and medial-most interval on each elytron is pale. I would need to see details of scutellar striae and hind angle portion of pronotum to be sure.

S. lecontei
Thanks for the ID, Matt. Image moved (finally!) from Seedcorn Beetles.

Stenolophus lecontei
This is a good example of S. lecontei, which is similar in appearance to S. comma, but has slightly more prominent hind-angles on the pronotum (only barely visible in the above photo, but distinct) and the black elytral maculation extends forward on the second interval from the suture (midline).

Matt
