tiny brown flying bugs nyc?

We live across the street from East River Park downtown, NYC. We have loads of tiny brown flying bugs all of a sudden. They are about the size of a match head with a rounded body and a round, darker head attached. Mostly they sit on the walls, but they take off and fly very quickly as well. Any ideas on what they might be and when they might leave?
