Identification
Rs very short and oblique in position and cell M1 sessile or short-petiolate.(2) The polished body also distinguishes Nephrotoma from most other large northeastern crane flies.
Range
worldwide except Australasia but poorly represented in the New World (just 14% of the spp.); Africa and Eurasia have very rich faunas(1)
