Solenopsis invicta? - Tetramorium bicarinatum

Solenopsis invicta? - Tetramorium bicarinatum
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
July 1, 2007

Moved
Moved from Myrmicinae.

Other Myrmicinae genus
Although general outline and color pattern do match with S. invicta, integuments of head and aliturnk of these ants are striated, not smooth, and there are short propodeal spines. I'd rather guess a member of the Tetramorini tribe, but without being positive.

Thanks
I thought it was a tad off from the usual mean fire ant, but not enough to think it was a whole tribe away! Thanks for the ID and explanation.

Tramp Ant (Tetramorium bicarinatum)
This ant has now been identified, and there are two other pics (of a single worker) in BG. An invasive species introduced from Old World tropics (see "info" page about this species),

Thanks!
My other images match this one perfectly.
