Aphoebantus maybe?

Aphoebantus maybe?
Prairie Center, Johnson County, Kansas, USA
July 6, 2007
I think this is a member of the genus Aphoebantus. Any ideas?

genus
might be Hirmoneura, but I can't rule out Neorhynchocephalus without a clear shot of the face.

Looks more like Villa to me.
Aphoebantus I've seen were either "humpbacked" in appearance, or had more of an elongated abdomen robber-fly-style look.

No, neither!
This is not a bee fly, but a tangle-veined fly, family Nemestrinidae. Great find!

COOL!
Wow, looks like its not too common. Thanks for the excellent ID as always Eric! How do you tell the difference? I don't really see anything odd about the veination, though I don't know much about it to begin with.
