This is a species introduced to the NA as an agent for biocontrol of Centaurea jacea.

Thank you for the ID. I've moved my images to the Genus page but I guess we'll have to wait for a BugGuide editor to create a page for the species, Urophora jaceana (Hering, 1935). It's interesting to learn that these flies were imported to control Centaurea jacea. I still see lots of Brown Knapweed around here. Does that mean these flies are not doing ther job?
