Tiny cantharid - Malthodes fragilis

Tiny cantharid - Malthodes fragilis
Mt. Washington, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
June 30, 2007
Size: about 2.4 mm
Collected three or four by sweeping roadside wildflowers with net. I was not at all sure the first one of these I found was even a beetle. There were other, larger, "real" cantharids visiting the same flowers as well as an assortment of other beetles and fli*es. This find was one of the many collateral benefits in my Forest Service-approved search for Py*tho str*ictus.
