Large Parenthesis Lady Beetle - Hippodamia glacialis

Large Parenthesis Lady Beetle - Hippodamia glacialis
Thornhill, Ontario, Canada
July 7, 2007
Though the spots and colouration are not a match for any image I could find on the guide, Hippodamia convergens is the closest match I could find. The pronotum is what makes me believe I may have a match. Also note that the beetle is surrounded by what appear to be aphids.... yum.

What do you think of
Hippodamia glacialis, info in the guide here. Also check the UoGuelph poster here, third from the bottom on the right. Great find! only one image in the guide.

Nice!
I don't know how I missed this image in my search. Steven Luk (who photographed the only other image of this species) lives very close by, further adding to the probability that you're right. I'm going to move this to the guide page. Thanks again John and Jane!

Nice find, David!
Great image, too - it actually shows some apparent variation in the pronotum patterning. Until now, I've only seen f-hole-shaped dashes on glacialis. Good to see your work with the Lady Beetles - keep it up!

Thanks Stephen
Without your great work, IDing insect in this area would be much harder. You're always one (or more) steps ahead of me! It seems more often than not, while I'm investigating the identity of my latest finds I come accross your images and informative comments.

Anytime :-)
Thank you for your kind words, too. Even in the northern-ness of Ontario, we're surrounded by a myriad of insect species - I find myself overwhelmed often (even in suburban woodlots!) So, let's continue to work and learn together, and keep hauling in those wonderful images!
