Acadian Hairstreak - Satyrium acadica

Acadian Hairstreak - Satyrium acadica
Thornhill, Ontario, Canada
July 7, 2007
I accidentally confused an earlier post of an Eastern Tailed Blue for an Acadian Hairstreak, so I thought I'd redeem myself by posting the correct species from the same location on the same day. Apparently they share the same taste for habitat.

They Do Look Similar!
That certainly looks like other Acadian Hairstreaks in the guide. What a great shot!

Thanks
They're not only common in this area, but they're very cooperative for photos. I'll have to go back and see if I can get a shot of one with it's wings open, but they don't seem to open their wings much while perched.

This should be a lesson to all of us entomolgists in training. Beware the blinders of familiarity... similar habitat, colour and shape can be decieving. I'll be double checking my ID's much more carefully before I post!

Thanks for your help and your kind words about Canada. I feel very luck to live here as it truly is a wonderful country. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay here and I hope you find your way back at some point soon.
