I think
I think Ichneumons are really Crane Flies aren't they?

No, they're not.
Ichneumons belong to the order Hymenoptera (the bees, wasps, ants and sawflies), while Crane Flies belong to the order Diptera (the flies). The two orders are very different; one major difference being that Hymenoptera have two pairs of wings while in the Diptera, there is only one well-developed pair plus a reduced pair called halteres, which are balancing organs.

Thanks :)
Well that resolves that for me! Thank you for taking the time to explain that! I love bugs but there is so much I do not know scientifically.

Gasteruptiid Wasp
No, I think it's a Gasteruptiid in the genus Gasteruption.

yes
note the dorsal attachment of the metasoma (abdomen) well above the leg bases

Thank you very much!
