Hemaris diffinis caterpillar, Leptoglossus phyllopus nymph - Hemaris diffinis

Hemaris diffinis caterpillar, Leptoglossus phyllopus nymph - Hemaris diffinis
Garden Ridge/San Antonio, Comal County, Texas, USA
June 8, 2007
I believe the nymph to be Leptoglossus phyllopus, Leaf-footed bug, since all the adults on the same bush are the same species (have the horizontal white stripe dorsally). The nymph has the same color of antenna. I think the caterpillar is Hemaris diffinis on the host plant, Coral honeysuckle. Please correct this novice if I am wrong.

oops
- nevermind, I was preoccupied with the nymph, but now I see the caterpillar was the reason this image was under the sphinx moth section!

I would say this is an Acanthocephala nymph
that blue-black color and spiky edge to the abdomen are typical. They are also more solitary than Leptoglossus, and wander more freely.

You have the caterpillar right. What a great photo!
