how are these differentiated...
from males of E. lapponicus? Just curious. And thanks for the IDs!

 
Honestly, it's more of a guess
since you've found female sylvestris in the same region it's probably safe to assume this is a male sylvestris.

Also, there appears to be a difference in pronotum pattern between sylvestris and lapponicus. The dark area in the pronotum of sylvestris seem to be "bell shaped" whereas it is circular in lapponicus (you can observe this difference in females too). However, this isn't a confirmed characteristic to distinguish the two so I wouldn't rely on it too much.
