Size: 4.5inches
more like walking blade of grass. a bunch of these guys were in the grasses in the dunes

Diapheromera velii
Pretty sure this is the species. This is typical habitat, well within the range. Even though I can't make out all the diagnostic characters to be certain, it looks quite typical for the species in all the details I can see.
