Stink bug on Stachys - Cosmopepla uhleri

Stink bug on Stachys - Cosmopepla uhleri
Los Trancos OSP, San Mateo/Santa Clara County, California, USA
July 10, 2007
Size: about 1cm
There were quite a few of these bugs on Stachys pycnantha, Short-spike Hedge Nettle, growing in a seep/creek. The first one that I tried to take a photo of was on the stem of a large dry plant umbel, and crept around to the other side of the stem, then into the umbel, to get away from my camera view.

We photographed something similar
that Eric thought might be a stinkbug in the genus Cosmopepla. But we would expect those to be much smaller. Even assuming you mean millimeters, 12 would be too big for that genus we think.

Size
I checked with the person I was with, and she thought more like 1cm. That's probably more like it.
