Twelve-spotted Skimmer - Libellula pulchella - Female

The short appendages indicate this is a female. She was photographed in a sunny open oak savanna along the North Branch of the Chicago River. Notice how the yellow stripe on the side of the abdomen is continuous, in contrast to the broken slashes on the side of the female Common Whitetail.
