Plentiful Argiope aurantia? near Lake Whitney, Texas - Argiope aurantia - female

Plentiful Argiope aurantia? near Lake Whitney, Texas - Argiope aurantia - Female
Lake Whitney, Hill County, Texas, USA
July 27, 2016
I spend a lot of time walking my 7 acres, near Towash Creek, the famed Ioni Indiand settlement near the Brazos river, area flooded to make Lake Whitney, great Bass Fishing, my land is mostly Cedar Trees, the cleared acre that is landscaped with Century Plants, Yuccas, and other desert plants, is full of Argiope aurantia females hanging upside down their giant nests, with the thick vertical zig-zag, they are huge! It's only the end of July, far from the 1st frost when they die, and these 3 different specimens, Curly, Moe and Latecia, are approx 50-60mm with legs already! Our 1st frost in N. Central Texas ranges from Nov.1st - "we're still wishing" - Good Times! - Lori
