Cicadas on Hosta - Magicicada cassini

Cicadas on Hosta - Magicicada cassini
Park Ridge, Cook County, Illinois, USA
June 6, 2007
A friend from Park Ridge, Illinois sent this image for my 4-H group in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This is her first attempt at entomological photography. She also collected two each for my kids. Neat stuff !

This species of Cicada is highly rare to be found like this they have a life cycle of 17 years this should be left alone, not in hands of children.
Foolish mistake.

Collection of Specimens
Kiarash,

The collection of specimens is certainly a large and important debate. Clearly, we disagree on the value of collecting; especially for children; particularly when hundreds of millions Magicicada cassini emerged during this brood of which the vast majority wound up as food. While I respect your opinion, your use of the term 'foolish' is ill advised. It is not a term in keeping with the spirit of this site.

Yours Truly,

Karl
