Tiny bathroom bugs - Willowsia nigromaculata

Tiny bathroom bugs - Willowsia nigromaculata
Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 13, 2007
Size: 2mm
These tiny bugs have started showing up in my bathroom cracks near my tub, especially at night. They crawl relatively slowly around on the floor and do not appear afraid of me or the light. I captured one (not easy cause they jump when disturbed) and took this shot under a microscope. It is about 2mm in length excluding the antennae.

My amateur ID is a springtail (Willowsia buski?). Is this right?

Willowsia nigromaculata
Hi Nick, you were close ;-)
Note the black spots (nigro=black; maculata=spotted) on its abdomen. W. buski is not spotted but has a uniform body colour.
Willowsia species often are found in-house. Possibly they entered the house looking for moist places when wheather conditions outside are not suited for their survival. They are harmless. Possibly only a nuissance.

Thanks, Chuck, for bringing this picture to our attention.

It looks like a springtail
So I moved it where an expert will be sure to see it
