Size: 3/4 inch
Very loud buzzy sound and wary. Saw several of these in my garden in the morning only.

Yellow Jacket Hoverfly
Hi,

I just posted a photo of this insect a few days ago, looked it up in the bugguide pages, and found it to be a Yellow Jacket Hoverfly (Milesia virginiensis). I first thought it was a bee or wasp and had trouble finding an ID. Here's a link to the photo ...
