Odd Beetle - Isohydnocera aegra

Odd Beetle - Isohydnocera aegra
Charleston, Charleston County, South Carolina, USA
July 15, 2007
Size: 3mm
Longhorn? Cleriid? Soldier Beetle?

under revision, but "aegra" by current literature
Newman's (1840) type specimens (based on Barr's type slides) of "aegra" actually have tri-vittae'd pronota even though he fails to mention this in his descritpion, instead suggesting that it is an entirely pale testaceous species much like I. brunnea from the western US.
This is, in my humble opinion, either a new species OR an eastern set of records (as I have numerous FL records) for I. brunnea.
This opinion is still fledgling as I have no specimens of I. brunnea at my disposal as of yet and I have not drawn genitalia yet, as I plan to do.

Moved
Moved from Isohydnocera.

Isohydnocera aegra (Newman, 1840)
Jacques Rifkind det.

Moved
Moved from Checkered Beetles.

Cleridae
Just off hand, I'd say this looks like a new sp. of Isohydnocera, maybe aegra for the guide. Certain about family though.
