Branch Pruner - Psyrassa unicolor

Branch Pruner - Psyrassa unicolor
Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada
July 18, 2004
Size: about 10 mm
Looks similar to Lynette's recent image and the long, skinny body reminds me of an Oberea species but I couldn't find any matching photo on the web.
(update: changed title from "orange longhorned beetle"

Psyrassa unicolor
From Yanega (1996) looks to be Psyrassa unicolor (Branch Pruner). Only one other Psyrassa (pertenuis)in NE N Am and it is not found in Ontario, but is on the Atlantic Coast. Larva girdles twigs of various hardwoods. Will go to UV light. Apparently common but I've not seen it!

I think Lynette's photo here might be P. pertenuis. Check it out and see what you think.
