American Lady
It's just an American Lady, Vanessa virginiensis. It's not a Painted Lady. Compare yours to this one:

American Lady
It's also called American Painted Lady, as in A Field Guide To Butterflies by Klots.

Common names are variable, sometimes regional
American Painted Lady was the way I found it first, and that confused me for months. Fortunately, the common name used at this site is simply American Lady.
