These gregarious (and voracious) caterpillars were found on a black walnut (/Juglans nigra/) tree in close proximity to a cluster of earlier instars. Not sure what the greenish liquid blob is at the head end of one of the caterpillars in the foreground -- ejection of material being chewed as part of defensive reaction?
