A medium sized wasp, but to me it looks like a dozen different wasps in the guide. Is it a paper wasp? thanks.

This used to be the only Polistes in QC. Now there is also the introduced P. dominula...

Yes...
A female Polistes. I'm not very good at the species, though. Fortunately there are many people on the site that are, so you should be able to at least get some suggestions on what species it is.
